Technological Boom Heading to the Middle East: New IBM Nanotechnology Research Center Planned for Egypt
Earlier this week, in a bold move indicative of the climate of technological change in the region, Samuel J. Palmisano, IBM Chairman, President and CEO flew in to Cairo for the launching of a Global Service Delivery Center in Egypt and a meeting with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Nazif. The subject of the meeting: Egypt’s emerging role as a strong player in the new global economy. Capturing the growing potential of Egypt as knowledge-base exporter, Palmisano signed an agreement with the Egyptian government to create a 100-person nanotechnology research center which is expected to grow to 1000-persons.... Bahrain's Arbah Global unveils nanotechnology fund
Foraying into the emerging albeit futuristic field of nanotechnology, the Bahrain based investment arm of Arbah Capital, Arbah Global yesterday announced the launch of the Arbah Nanotechnology Fund at the World Islamic Capital Markets Conference. The Shariah compliant Private Equity fund with a size of $100 million and a five-year term is the first of its kind to be launched in the Middle East and North Africa region, and will invest in shares and equity-oriented securities of companies with a particular emphasis on global nanotechnology companies including technology and biotechnology companies which benefit from nanotechnology. Saudi Research Organisation Creates Nanotechnology Centre With IBM to Drive Innovation in Sustainable Resources
King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology, the Saudi Arabian national research and development organisation, today announced it is establishing a Nanotechnology Centre of Excellence, in association with IBM Research, to seek key innovations, and explore and develop breakthroughs in applying molecular-scale engineering to critical energy and sustainable resource issues.
